Gym and Fitness Studio Websites: What Fills Classes and What Doesn't

Sector GuidesBloomorbit Studio7 Aug 2026

The single best gym websites we've audited do four things really well. The worst do none of them. Here's what fills classes in 2026 and what doesn't.

What fills classes

  • A live class timetable -- Not a PDF, not a "see our schedule" link to MindBody, not a screenshot. An actual embedded, real-time class timetable on your homepage. If a prospect can see "Spin, 6:30am Tuesday, 3 spaces left" they convert at a meaningfully higher rate than if they have to leave your site to find out.
  • Instructor profiles with real photos -- People book classes with humans, not gyms. Each instructor should have a profile — qualifications, what they teach, a real photo, and one line that gives them personality.
  • A first-class offer visible above the fold -- A free trial, taster session, or "first week £5" deal. Without this, a prospect on the fence about trying you has no friction-free way to start.
  • Member testimonials with first names and photos -- Generic anonymous reviews don't convert. "Sarah, lost 14kg in 6 months with our small-group strength programme" — that converts.

What doesn't fill classes

  • Hero videos of impossibly fit people doing acrobatics (signals "you don't belong here" to your actual target market)
  • Generic stock photos of dumbbells
  • A "Book a Tour" CTA that requires filling in a 6-field form
  • Spec sheets of equipment ("we have 12 squat racks") — nobody is choosing a gym on rack count
  • Pricing hidden behind a "request a quote" form

Pricing transparency

The myth: hiding pricing makes prospects more likely to enquire.

The reality: hiding pricing makes prospects bounce to a competitor who shows it. UK gyms increasingly publish at least starting-from numbers, even if the full package depends on commitment length.

Show your standard monthly memberships clearly. The people who need bespoke programming will still ask.

Booking integration

Most UK gyms use one of: MindBody, Glofox, ClubRight, TeamUp, or a homegrown system.

Your website's job isn't to replace those — it's to embed the booking flow seamlessly. The visitor should never realise they've moved between systems.

If your booking platform doesn't have an embeddable widget, that's a problem worth fixing. We've built custom booking interfaces for fitness studios where off-the-shelf wasn't right.

Member areas

For studios with serious member retention focus, a member portal where existing members can access workout programmes, recorded classes, nutrition guidance and progress tracking is a strong differentiator.

This is portal territory — £3,500+ build — and earns its money for studios with >100 members.

Common mistakes when refreshing your site

  • Treating your website as a brochure when it should be a booking funnel.
  • Mobile experience as an afterthought — most fitness traffic is mobile.
  • Not measuring class-bookings-via-website per month. If you don't measure, you can't optimise.

A note from the Bloomorbit studio

We build websites for UK gyms and fitness studios from Cardiff, working with clients UK-wide. Starter tier £799 for studios with simple needs, professional tier £1,999 when you need integrated booking and member areas.

The realistic uplift in trial bookings from a fixed conversion funnel is usually 2-3x within 60 days.
