Hair and Beauty Salon Websites: How to Fill Your Appointment Book Through Your Website

Salon websites have a single job: turn local searches into booked appointments. Most of them don't do that job well. Here's what does.

The booking-first homepage

Above the fold, on mobile, every salon homepage should have:

  • Salon name and location
  • Either a "Book Now" button leading to an embedded booking system, OR a phone number prominent and click-to-call
  • Service/price hint ("Cuts from £35", "Balayage from £150")
  • Opening hours

That's it. Other things matter but those four are non-negotiable. Most UK salon websites we audit miss two or more.

Booking systems that work

In the UK most salons use one of: Phorest, Treatwell, Fresha, Square, Timely. All of them have embeddable widgets that drop into a website.

The website's job isn't to replace the booking system — it's to expose it cleanly so a customer never has to leave your site to book.

If your booking platform doesn't have an embed widget, that's worth raising with them. Bouncing the customer to a different domain (especially a generic aggregator like Treatwell that also promotes competitors) costs you bookings.

Service and price pages

Every service should have a page or section that covers:

  • What the service involves
  • How long it takes
  • The price (or starting-from price)
  • Who it's appropriate for / who it isn't
  • The before/after care if relevant

For higher-end services (balayage, hair extensions, complex colour, semi-permanent makeup) before/after photos matter enormously. With consent.

Stylist profiles

Customers book stylists, not salons. Each member of the team should have a brief profile — photo, specialisation, years of experience, and which day they work.

This converts at meaningfully higher rates than anonymous team listings.

Real photos

The two photos that move the needle:

  • Your salon interior (not a stock photo of a generic salon)
  • Real client work — cuts, colour, treatments — with permission

Stock photos of perfect blonde models actively hurt conversion because they signal "this isn't really a Cardiff/Leeds/Bristol salon, this is a website".

What you can skip

  • The detailed founder origin story
  • "Why we love what we do" generic copy
  • Pricing hidden behind "request a consultation" forms
  • Pop-up newsletter signups
  • Lengthy "Our products" pages naming brands that don't matter to customers

Local SEO essentials

Salon traffic is hyperlocal. The three must-haves:

  • Google Business Profile fully completed (photos, services, hours, location)
  • Local schema markup on your website
  • On-page copy that mentions the specific neighbourhoods or towns you serve, naturally

Most independent salon owners we work with see meaningful Google Business uplift just from completing their profile properly. The website then amplifies that.

Loyalty and rebooking

A salon website's secondary job is making the customer come back. Two patterns that work:

  • A clear "book your next appointment" prompt during checkout
  • A loyalty/rewards system, even simple (every 6th cut free, or 10% off colour on quiet weekdays)

For salons with serious member-base focus, a client portal for loyalty management and repeat booking is justified. Most salons under 8 chairs don't need this; the booking platform's built-in loyalty features are enough.

Common mistakes

  • Treating the website as a brochure when it's a booking funnel
  • Forgetting that 90% of visitors are on mobile
  • Hiding prices — customers expect to see them
  • Not integrating the booking system properly (or at all)
