Plumbers and electricians convert traffic differently from most businesses. The visitor is usually in mild-to-severe distress (leaking pipe, dead consumer unit, no hot water) and the decision window is minutes, not days. The website's job is to remove every barrier between landing and dialling.
The phone number first
Above the fold, on mobile, the phone number should be the largest non-logo element. Click-to-call enabled. Visible without scrolling. Visible without expanding a hamburger menu. This single change typically increases call conversion by 30-60% on plumber and electrician sites we audit.
The mistake we see most: phone number in 12pt grey text in the header, requiring two taps to find. On a wet hand under a sink, that's the difference between a call and a competitor.
Service area clarity
The second thing a panicked customer wants to know: "do you cover my area, today?" Make this trivial to answer:
- List the specific towns and postcodes you cover
- Indicate if you offer same-day or emergency response
- Be honest about your reach radius — overstating it loses trust
A simple "We cover Cardiff, Newport, Penarth, Barry, Cowbridge and the Vale of Glamorgan, with 24/7 emergency call-out within 20 miles of CF11" outperforms a map widget every time.
Trade body credentials
For domestic plumbing and gas: Gas Safe register number prominent. For electricians: NICEIC, NAPIT or ELECSA registration. For both: insurance (PLI, employers' liability) visible.
These credentials are non-negotiable. Customers won't book a gas engineer who doesn't display Gas Safe credentials, regardless of price.
Real photos and reviews
Two assets that move conversion:
- Real photos of completed jobs, with context (boiler installation, fuse board upgrade, bathroom rewire) — not stock images
- Reviews with names and locations ("Sarah from Penarth — boiler replaced in a day, no fuss") rather than anonymous "John D."
Google Reviews on their own aren't enough. The signals on your own site need to corroborate.
A simple "call or message" CTA
Some customers want to phone immediately. Others want to send a description and a photo of the problem via WhatsApp or a contact form before committing to a call. Offer both:
- Primary: phone number, large and click-to-call
- Secondary: "send a photo of the problem" via WhatsApp Business or a structured contact form with photo upload
For non-emergency work (full rewires, new installations, planned upgrades), the form route is often preferred. Cover both bases.

Cost and timeline
A purpose-built plumber or electrician website with the above is in our £799 starter or £1,999 professional tier. 5-10 working day turnaround. Most trades sites we relaunch see qualified inbound calls roughly triple within 60 days.
A note from the Bloomorbit studio
